Why 13 Reasons Why Shouldn’t Have A Second Season

on

Last week, I finished watching 13 Reason’s Why. I reviewed it, but it’s up on my personal blog if you want to read it. I didn’t want to put that on here.  13 Reasons Why should not have a second season. If you have watched the first season, then you know that if it gets renewed, the show is going to escalate.

SPOILERS AHEAD.

The show will no longer be about Hannah Baker. It’ll be about her parents and the lawsuit against the school, a possible school shooting, finding out if Alex killed himself or was killed by Tyler, and Hannah’s and Jessica’s sexual assault. A school shooting? This is one of my theories, but I’m pretty sure that that’s exactly what’s going to happen. The first season of the show is already harmful. Imagine how harmful the second season will be.

Imagine how harmful the second season will be. Mental health experts even say to not watch the show. Either Netflix knows the negative impact this show has and they’re ignoring it or they’re actually clueless.

Selena Gomez, a co-producer on the show, is aware of the negativity and the backlash surrounding the show, told Billboard, “It’s going to come no matter what. It’s not an easy subject to talk about. But I’m very fortunate with how it’s doing.” She also said that with the show, she wanted it to help people. I’m sorry, but this show didn’t help. It didn’t talk about warning signs of someone contemplating suicide and it doesn’t talk about getting help. Yes, you told the story of a girl who committed suicide and two girls that were sexually assaulted, but that’s all you did. You told the story.  There are tons of memes and jokes on social media about 13 Reasons Why. There have been promposals. People are just jumping on the bandwagon. I don’t support this show. The show is triggering.

I just watched an interview with 3 of the stars from the show. They said that Hannah’s suicide changed from taking pills to cutting to show that suicide is not an easy choice. Excuse me? First of all, that’s not why they changed it.  I think that they changed it so that the show would be more dramatic. So taking pills is an easier option? How dare you. It doesn’t matter what it is: when it comes to suicide, nothing is easy.

If there is a second season, then the name of the show should be changed. It’s no longer 13 Reasons Why anymore. It’ll just be another crappy teen show.

If you’re thinking or have had thoughts about suicide or just need someone to talk to, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255.
